For more than a decade, Cadigal has marked ANZAC Day through a simple yet meaningful tradition: curating and sharing ANZAC biscuit gift boxes with our clients and service partners. Each year, this initiative serves as a small but sincere gesture of remembrance, connection, and appreciation, reflecting the enduring values of service, resilience, and community that sit at the heart of ANZAC Day.
Since 2020, Cadigal has been proud to partner with Batehaven Bakehouse in Batemans Bay on the New South Wales South Coast for our annual ANZAC biscuits.
This partnership began in the aftermath of the 2019-2020 Black Summer bushfires, which had a devastating impact on many communities across southern New South Wales. Among the numerous affected, was the Kelly family, owners of Batehaven Bakehouse and the Ulladulla Bakery Cafe in Mollymook. With major transport routes closed during the crisis, the family’s operations were severely disrupted. Their town was cut off, supply lines were affected, and both bakeries were ultimately forced to close their doors.
Without power, Batehaven Bakehouse could not continue normal operations, leaving staff temporarily out of work during an already difficult period. Even so, the Kelly family remained committed to supporting their community, providing lunch packs to the Rural Fire Service while the region faced immense pressure and uncertainty.
In the year that followed, Cadigal made the decision to source our ANZAC biscuits from Batehaven Bakehouse as a way of supporting the business in its recovery and contributing to the rebuilding of a valued regional operator.
This has since grown into an ongoing partnership that we value greatly. Today, the Kelly family hand delivers more than 5,000 ANZAC biscuits to the Cadigal office each year.
This year, we also took the opportunity to evolve our ANZAC Day gifting through a more sustainable packaging solution.
In place of our usual packaging, we partnered with a local Sydney-based business to create custom boxes that are fully compostable, recyclable, and made from 100% recycled FSC-certified materials. This change reflects our commitment to making considered choices wherever possible with sustainability front of mind.
Alongside the biscuit boxes, our ANZAC Day gifts this year included poppy pins sourced from a military provider in Canberra. This business is one of Australia’s largest private donors to military and veteran charities and has contributed more than $1 million in direct funding to organisations that support current and former serving members.
We hope this year’s ANZAC biscuit boxes were warmly received by our clients and service partners, and we look forward to continuing this tradition for many years to come.
