For more than a decade, Cadigal has marked ANZAC Day with a simple tradition: curating ANZAC biscuit gift boxes for our clients and service partners. It’s a small gesture of remembrance and appreciation, reflecting the values of service, resilience and community at the heart of the day.
Since 2020, we’ve been proud to source those biscuits from Batehaven Bakehouse in Batemans Bay, on the New South Wales South Coast. The partnership began in the aftermath of the 2019-2020 Black Summer bushfires. The Kelly family, owners of Batehaven Bakehouse and Ulladulla Bakery Cafe, were among those hit hardest. With major routes closed and their town cut off, supply lines collapsed and both bakeries were forced to shut. Even without power, the Kelly’s kept feeding their community, providing lunch packs to the Rural Fire Service throughout the crisis.
The following year, Cadigal chose to source our ANZAC biscuits from Batehaven to support their recovery. What started as a gesture has become a partnership we value greatly. Today, the Kelly family hand-delivers more than 5,000 ANZAC biscuits to our office each year.
This year, we also evolved the gifting itself. Partnering with a local Sydney business, we replaced our usual packaging with custom boxes that are fully compostable, recyclable and made from 100% recycled, FSC-certified materials – a considered choice with sustainability front of mind.
Each box also included a poppy pin sourced from a Canberra-based military provider, one of Australia’s largest private donors to military and veteran charities, having contributed more than $1 million in direct funding to organisations supporting current and former serving members.
We hope this year’s ANZAC biscuit boxes were warmly received by our clients and service partners, and we look forward to continuing this tradition for many years to come.
